-
OSCAR WILDE
INTRODUCTION
Lesson
plan no: 9
This
report is mainly to discuss about the innovative lesson plan which was taken at
St. Mary’s H.S.S, Pattom as part of the internship in the fourth semester.
Innovative work is defined as “the process of making changes to something
established by introducing “something new”. Innovative work helps a teacher to
teach lesson easily. The role of innovative work is very important in English
language teaching. In order to teach a lesson innovatively, the teacher must
use a lot of pictures, games, models and songs. In teaching learning process
the role of innovative work is very important. it makes the class interesting
and effective. So, in English language education the role of innovative work is
very helpful and pivotal. The present innovative work is an attempt to make a
textbook by dramatizing the events in the lesson “the nightingale and the rose”
by Oscar Wilde.
This
type of lesson plan evoke the learner in many aspect .it is through innovative
lesson template people will get a good knowledge of the content and they develop
a better retention power. Without innovation students will lose attention and
teaching will lose its value. As teachers we need to make our students
passionate and eager to learn more and that’s where innovation interferes.
Importance of innovative teaching
Ø It
attracts the student’s attention in the classroom.
Ø It
makes them interested in subject and eager to learn more.
Ø It
stimulates their minds
Ø It
makes them understand the subject rather than just memorizing it.
Ø It
makes them creative and productive.
This innovative lesson plan is prepared and
implemented by me to teach eighth standard students at St. Mary’s school,
Pattom. This innovation mainly focused to evoke different skills in learner and
how these may become effective and efficient in their outlook. Successful in
experimenting and implementing new teaching approach, it can widen the
knowledge of the students. Moreover it would also evoke real life experience.

PURPOSE OF THE WORK
As part of teaching practice session two, I
opted an innovative work based on the chapter ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’. Based on this chapter which is an allegorical fable by Oscar Wilde, I prepared
an innovative working model. This innovative model is prepared to cater the
needs of all the learners. I have also used digital flash card strategy to
improve student’s mastery of vocabulary.
This lesson has enough scope to promote student’s creative writing and critical thinking.
PLAN OF ACTION
An innovative lesson plan was prepared on the chapter
‘THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE’ from the unit IV (FLOWERS AND SHOWERS). Before starting
the lesson the innovative model was prepared before the students. Innovative model
was prepared based on the story line. All the characters in the story were included
in that working model. It was colorfully and gracefully arranged.
METHODOLOGY
One
of the biggest challenges that teachers face is to find ways to succeed with
different types of learners, not just those with whom they have natural
affinity. As teachers, we have to use different kind of teaching methodologies
and strategies that promote the maximum degree of success for students of all
types. There are different kinds of learners such as visual, auditory, reading/
writing and kinesthetic, Tactile and global. Each learning type responds best
to a different method of teaching.
§ Visual
learners learn best by looking. They respond well to colourful pictures and
images
§ Auditory
learners learn best by listening. They work well with spoken instructions and
learn quickly by listening to stories and songs.
§ Tactile
learners learn physically by touching and manipulating objects.
§ Kinesthetic
learners learn physically moving
§ Analytic
learners focus on the details of language global learners focus on the whole
picture and do not care so much about specific details.
INNOVATIVE WORKING MODEL (The Nightingale and the Rose)
So
in this innovative work, all the learners have enough scope. It is designed and
prepared to cater the needs of all the learners. They can easily grasp the
story and message from the image. In the initial stage teachers gives a short description
about the story. After the necessary instruction teachers displays the
innovative model to transact the content effectively. So it is appealing to all
the learners and at the same time it invites the attention and taste of all the
learners. Each type of learner has specific role to perform. Then teachers
exhibits catching dialogue from the story and ask them to identify the character.
It creates interest to learners. It helps them to have better retention.

DIGITAL FLASH CARD STRATEGY (LESSON 10, PAGE - 76)
In
order to teach vocabulary teacher trainee has invented another technique. It is
known as digital flashcard strategy. It gives importance to all the skills of
learners. Difficult vocabulary is
taught with the help of ICT. Digital
flash card includes images of the vocabulary, video, native speaker’s
pronunciation, explanation of meaning .context analysis and proper drilling. It
really addresses all the skills of the learner.'
FINDINGS
Being
innovative is about looking beyond what we do currently. It is identifying the
great idea of tomorrow and putting them in to practice. It is a way finding out
the different possibility and widening the horizon of current knowledge. Using
this innovative lesson plan, it is very clear that the learners become very much motivated in the classroom interaction. Students responded very well to all the discourses conducted in the class.
CONCLUSION
Innovative
lesson plan was really a great success. It had accomplished all levels of learning
outcome. Being innovative is about looking beyond what we do currently. The
important element of this lesson had been transacted to different types of learners
in the class. It caters the needs of all the learners.
